The Researchers from the Safety and Emergency Lab Got the First Place in “Data Collection” Category in EWSN 2019 Dependability Competition
The 16th International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks, EWSN 2019, was held in Beijing. Prof. Dr. Jianming Wei’s group, the Safety and Emergency Laboratory from the Intelligence Information Communication Technology Research and Development Center, SARI, took part in the EWSN 2019 Dependability Competition and won the first place in “Data Collection” Category with their DeCoT+.
The International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks is a highly selective, annual forum for presenting research results in the field of networked embedded systems, broadly defined, including for example Wireless Sensor Networks, Internet of Things, or Cyber-Physical Systems. Over the last decade, a large number of low-power wireless communication protocols have been proposed by both academia and industry. Their performance, however, has rarely been benchmarked under the exact same settings. Furthermore, little is known about the performance of most low-power wireless protocols in the presence of RF interference, which often leads to an increase in packet loss, end-to-end latency, and energy consumption. Since 2016, the EWSN dependability competition aims to fill this gap by quantitatively comparing the dependability of state-of-the-art WSN and IoT communication protocols under the same settings and in environments rich of radio interference. This year, 12 international teams, many of them including industry partners, were competing for the most dependable IoT networking solution.
After more than one month’s official evaluation, DeCoT+ won the first place depending on a better performance under harsh interference. Xiaoyuan Ma, as the main contributor of DeCoT+, presented their solution at the conference in Beijing.
