On June 4, 2026, a delegation led by Katarina Nordqvist, Deputy Director, Research Policy Unit, Swedish Ministry of Education and Research, visited the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as SARI). Prof. Haixiao Deng, President of SARI, received the delegation.

In his opening remarks, Haixiao Deng extended a warm welcome to the delegation and briefed them on SARI’s research layout and international cooperation landscape. He noted that Sweden boasts profound strengths in science and technology, highlighting MAX IV—the world’s first fourth-generation synchrotron light source—which has maintained long-standing exchanges with the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). He expressed hope that the visit would advance practical bilateral cooperation in fields including large science facilities.

Katarina Nordqvist thanked SARI for the reception. She acknowledged China’s progress in scientific and technological innovation, and commended SARI’s distinctive strengths in large science facilities and interdisciplinary research. She pledged to fully facilitate exchanges and collaboration between the two sides in relevant research areas.

The delegation subsequently toured the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility and the National Facility for Protein Science in Shanghai. They held in-depth discussions on leveraging large science facilities to address global challenges such as climate change and human health.
