Institution Research Center for Carbon Dioxide Photon Science

The Institution Research Center for Carbon Dioxide Photon Science is a pilot initiative of the Chinese Academy of Sciences aimed at advancing institutional reform within research institutes, enhancing original innovation capabilities, and building high-level research institutions with international competitiveness.

The Center addresses the national strategic demand for carbon peak and carbon neutrality, focusing on major scientific and technological challenges in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Leveraging the strengths of large-scale scientific facilities, the center prioritizes key areas such as efficient CO2 capture, comprehensive CO2 utilization, hydrogen production via water electrolysis, and theoretical simulation and design.

The center is primarily dedicated to original innovation and breakthroughs in core CCUS technologies, including the development of catalytic materials, innovation of catalytic pathways, and elucidation of reaction mechanisms at atomic and molecular levels. Its efforts aim to achieve chain-like innovations spanning from basic research to application demonstrations.
