Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF), located at Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, is a third-generation medium-energy synchrotron light source which consists of a 150MeV electron linac, a full-energy booster, a 3.5GeV electron storage ring and 16 operational beamlines. SSRF has been open to users since May 6, 2009.

The Shanghai Soft X-ray Free-Electron Laser (SXFEL), the first X-ray free-electron laser user facility in China, is known as the fourth-generation light source. It can photograph and film molecules, providing a revolutionary research tool for physics, biology, chemistry and other research areas.

National Facility for Protein Science Shanghaiwas approved by National Development and Reform Committee in 2008 and officially commenced in Dec.2010.
