On July 16, Prof. Weerapong Pairsuwan, Chairman of the Board of the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI) of Thailand, headed a delegation from Thailand’s Health Innovation and Medical Leadership Initiative to visit the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as SARI). Prof. Deng Haixiao, President of SARI, attended the meeting and delivered an address, while Zhao Zhentang, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Science Center, was also present at the event. The two sides held in-depth exchanges on cooperation for large science infrastructures and high-end medical equipment, among other topics.

Deng Haixiao extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He briefed the guests on SARI’s overall research layout, large science infrastructures, as well as their core technologies and industrial applications. He noted that China and Thailand have laid a solid foundation for scientific and technological cooperation. Long-term close ties have been maintained between the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility and Thailand’s Synchrotron Light Research Institute. The CAS Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok), a vital bridge for Sino-Thai scientific collaboration, plays a pivotal role in facilitating the commercialization of technological innovations between China and Thailand. He expressed the expectation to further advance pragmatic bilateral cooperation in fields including large science infrastructures in the future. In his speech, Pairsuwan stated that Thailand and China have maintained robust cooperation in synchrotron radiation research, and looked forward to deepening technical collaboration on large science infrastructures and medical and healthcare technologies.

Both sides engaged in thorough discussions covering synchrotron radiation technology, the construction of proton therapy facilities and their clinical applications. Following the meeting, the delegation toured the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility.
