Dense Wave Division Multiplex (DWDM) technique is one of the key technologies in fiber-optic communication. China is planning to adopt DWDM technique to improve transmission rate and increase the number of information channels in terrestrial communications backbone.
The present solutions for DWDM technique are dielectric film technique, arrayed waveguide technique, fiber gratings technique and so on. Dielectric films technique is difficult to reach WDM more than 60 channels, which is not suitable for the future WDM over 1000 channels program. Array waveguide has a strict requirement for temperature stability, and it still doesn’t meet the requirement even if the temperature control throughout the apparatus is uniform. Fiber Bragg Grating is the most promising so far a way. However, it needs separation of the reflected wave from optical loop or Mach-Zehnder interferometer, and the loop device manufacturing is difficult and expensive, and several other channels removing division need series fiber grating. Photorefractive Lithium Niobate(LN) crystal is an attractive holographic recording material, its advantages is the significant changes of refractive index , while LN crystals is always associated with the intensity of polarization state.
Hereby, we propose a solution of micro-structure fiber gating, which can simultaneously realize the multi-channel beam dividing and bunching, and it doesn’t lead to a loss by the increasing number of channels. It is a competitive solution for future DWDM technique developing.
