Thailand MHESI Delegation Visits SARI

A delegation of 13 people led by Prof. Pasit Lorterapong, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand, visited the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), Chinese Academy of Sciences on February 12, 2023.Prof. Zhao Zhentang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF), Prof. Tai Renzhong, Vice President of SARI and deputy director of SSRF, Prof. Jiang Biao, Director of Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok), CAS led the Chinese delegation. Mr. Yang Wenzhan, Program officer from the International Cooperation Department, Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality also joined the visit.Accompanied by Chinese scientists, the delegation first visited the storage ring and two experimental stations at SSRF, the Shanghai Soft X-ray Free Electron Laser, and the superconducting RF cavity test platform for Shanghai Hard X-ray FEL Facility.At the meeting, Prof. Tai first extended a warm welcome on behalf of SARI to the visit of Prof. Pasit Lorterapong and his delegation. Tai briefly introduced the historical development and research direction of the Institute, and expressed his hope to enhance understanding through mutual visits and further promote the cooperation between China and Thailand in science and technology.Prof. Zhao Zhengtang delivered a report, introducing in details the operation and scientific research achievements at SSRF and reviewing the cooperation between China and Thailand in the field of synchrotron light source.In the final discussion, Prof. Pasit Lorterapong expressed his gratitude for the reception of sari, and said that through this visit, they had a deep understanding of the huge space for cooperation between China and Thailand in the field of science and technology. They will continue to promote mutual visits between the two sides and strive to produce more results in scientific research cooperation.

Merck Leadership Visited SARI

A delegation led by Mr. Stefan Oschmann, Chairman of the Executive Board & CEO at Merck Group visited SARI on June 6th, 2018. Vice President Huang Weiguang of SARI and Prof. Ding Jianping of National Center for Protein Science Shanghai (NCPSS) received the delegation.

  Prof. Huang first welcomed the Merck Delegation and briefly introduced the overall situation of SARI and its international cooperation activities. Stefan Oschmann thanked SARI for the arrangement and looked forward to deepening understanding and cooperation through exchanges. The delegation visited the platform of thermal power conversion system at SARI and scientific research facilities of NCPSS, and discussed with researchers on the topic of exploration and application of large-scale protein preparation system. 
  Founded in 1668, Merck group is a leading science and technology company, active in Healthcare, Life Science and Performance Materials. In China, it mainly engaged in pharmaceutical, life science and chemical business, and provides customers with the innovative prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and solutions in the field of life sciences, pigments and chemicals for industrial use. It set up its China innovation center in February.

SARI-ShanghaiTech International Summer Camp Held Successfully

“Gaoke Cup” Student Innovation and Practice Project- International Summer Camp, which was co-organized by SARIand ShanghaiTech University was successfully held from July 22nd to July 29th, 2017.


  “Gaoke Cup” Student Innovation and Practice Project- International Summer Camp, which was co-organized by Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SARI) and ShanghaiTech University (ShanghaiTech) was successfully held from July 22nd to July 29th, 2017.  
  Four teams composed of 14 students who won the first and second prizes in the “Gaoke Cup” Innovation &Entrepreneurship Competition took part in the summer camp to visit six top-tier UK universities, namely the University of Oxford, Cambridge University, Imperial College London, University College London, University of Bristol and Cardiff University. Students exchanged ideas with British scientific and management teams through academic exchanges, and obtained the experience of open and rigorous British education system. On the other hand, the activity helped to broaden the students’ horizon and provide them the chance to introduce SARI and Shanghaitech as well as the construction plan of Shanghai Zhangjiang comprehensive national science center. 
  Funded by Zhangjiang Hi-Tech District Management Committee, the activity also got support from the Foreign &Commonwealth Office and British Consulate General Shanghai. It aims to integrate education and research in an innovative way and lay a solid foundation for future international collaboration in fields of common interest.

China-EU Smart Grid Symposium Aims High for Cooperation

The Smart Grid Research and Innovation Symposium jointly organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC) was successfully held in Ispra, Italy from May 30-31, 2017.


  The Smart Grid Research and Innovation Symposium jointly organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC) was successfully held in Ispra, Italy from May 30-31, 2017. Professor Huang Weiguang, Vice President of Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), and Marcelo MASERA, Head of Unit in Energy sector at JRC served as Co-Chairs of the Symposium, which was co-organized by SARI and the Institute of Energy Internet Innovation (IEII) of Tsinghua University. Participants from the research, education and industry in China and Europe, including Politecnico di Torino, RWTH Aachen University, Enel SpA, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology and Energy Today etc. joined the event. 
  Professor MASERA kicked off the meeting with a presentation on Digital Energy, which was well responded by Professor Gao Feng, Deputy Director of IEII with introductions of the Energy Internet. The City Intelligent Energy Network Demonstration project brought up a solution for the future smart energy city in China. Topics including techno-economic assessment from pilots to deployment, cyber security, and demand response and end customer integration were covered and well discussed. 
  During the round table session, the attendees conducted in-depth discussions on the forward actions for the China-EU collaboration on smart grids, and reached consensus on cooperation models. The symposium was a great success with fruitful results and promising cooperation initiatives, which was highlighted by the CAS-JRC Framework signing ceremony. On June 2, witnessed by the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, CAS President Bai Chunli and JRC Director-General Vladimir ?ucha signed a framework agreement, in which Smart Grid is listed as a major cooperation topic.

Vice President of RAS Visited SARI

On May 19, a delegation led by Professor Valentin SERGIENKO, Academician and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) paid a visit to SARI.


  On May 19, a delegation led by Professor Valentin SERGIENKO, Academician and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) paid a visit to SARI. Vice President Huang Weiguang received the RAS delegation and discussed with them regarding cooperation opportunities. Executive Deputy Director Zhang Liliang and relevant researchers attended the meeting. 
  Huang Weiguang welcomed the RAS delegation and introduced SARI’s overall planning, development history and research scopes, pointing out that SARI attaches great importance to interdisciplinary research, technology transfer and international cooperation, hoping that the visit could promote project cooperation through discussion. Valentin SERGIENKO introduced RAS and the Far Eastern Branch, stressing that RAS has established many partnerships with China and hoping that both sides could develop partnerships regarding areas of research projects and personnel exchange. The two parties exchanged ideas around talent recruitment, joint research and technology commercialization and reached consensus for future cooperation. 
  The RAS delegation also visited CAS Key Lab of Low Carbon Conversion Science and Engineering, and discussed with young scientists on topics of low carbon science research and industrialization initiatives.

A delegation led by Chairman Acm Charlie Chandruang of Thai National Legislative Assembly visited SARI on May 15th 2017.


  A delegation led by Chairman Acm Charlie Chandruang of Thai National Legislative Assembly visited SARI on May 15th 2017. Prof. Huang Weiguang, Vice President of SARI and Prof. Feng Songlin, Vice Chairman of CAS Innovation Cooperation Center (Bangkok) received the delegation. Researchers from SARI, CAS-ICC (Bangkok) and Shanghai Engineering Center for Microsatellites attended the meeting.  
  Prof. Huang welcomed the delegation on behalf of SARI and introduced SARI’s research portfolio and major projects. He pointed out that SARI attached great importance to interdisciplinary research and technology transfer and had conducted fruitful international cooperation in the last 5 years. Researchers from Shanghai Engineering Center for Microsatellites gave a brief introduction of the Center and major achievements. The two parties held heated discussion on topics of common interest such as brain gain, technology transfer, postgraduate education, etc. Chairman Acm Charlie Chandruang expressed his thanks for SARI’s hospitality and he would provide feedback to the related departments of what he learned during this trip, hoping to explore potential cooperation opportunities.  
  The delegation also visited SARI’s exhibition hall during the visit.
