SARI's EV Charging Station Project (Phase One) Passing Acceptance Inspection
date: 2012-01-11
The “City Intelligent Energy Network” (CIEN) Integrated Technology Research and Demonstration Project, one of the major directional program of Knowledge Innovation Project in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was reviewed and initiated in May 2011. The CIEN project was launched with the planning and construction on the two-way electric vehicle (EV) charging station characterized by smart wind-light-electricity hybrid supply. And the first-phase project has all completed recently, which passed the expert review successfully at Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), CAS on 22nd Dec, 2011.

The “City Intelligent Energy Network” Integrated Technology Research and Demonstration Project is based on the construction of SARI, CAS in Pudong Science and Technology Park, aims to research on and demonstrate the key technologies and system integration techniques of the Green City Intelligent Energy Network Program. The Project provides technical support for the Green City Intelligent Energy Network Demonstration Program by researching and developing system integration and engineering technologies. And the Program serves as a platform for the research, advancement, application and demonstration of the technologies and techniques of each project in return.

The two-way EV charging station characterized by smart wind-light-electricity hybrid supply aims to save 25,000 degree electricity per year and enable renewable energy generation to account for at least 20 percent of the whole charging demand, reaching the domestic advanced level. The completed project is the first phase of the charging station project. Its main tasks include installation and commissioning of the renewable energy generation system, grid-connected inverse system construction, connection system reform, and development of the operation and management system of EV charging station based on the Internet of Things. In the following two years, with the further development of the second and third phase of the project, the charging station will realize the aim of high efficiency, intelligence and two-way charge-and-discharge by introducing DC direct charge mode and making use of the backward feeding function of EV storage battery.

The existing charging station contains six electric cars, three AC charging posts, one set of EV operation management system, and a renewable energy generation system with the installed capacity of 51.6kw. According to the current operation of the system, a 28,000-degree gross renewable energy generation is expected; the overall generation system sees sound stability; the hardware platform of the operation management system runs steadily; the equipment operating performance meets the design requirements. Therefore, the experts unanimously agreed on the project acceptance report and put forward further requirements to the follow-up work, i.e. to build the charging station into a testing platform for related technologies and equipments so as to set a model for equipment manufacturers and provide guidance and regulation for the industry; to collect sufficient economic-related technological data through the demonstrative operation, serving as a reliable basis for further promotion of the equipments and technologies.
