Shanghai, China – September 19, 2010 – “Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Medium and Long Term Development Plan Seminar” was held in Shanghai Academic Activity Center of CAS. Prof. Songlin Feng, Director of SARI, made a keynote speech, and Vice Director Biao Jiang hosted this seminar.
Prof. Songlin Feng introduced SARI’s mission and position, and elaborated on SARI’s phased development plans, namely, preparation and assessment period (2011), fast development period (2012-2015) and sustainable development period (2016-2020). Prof. Feng detailed SARI’s technology layout and strategic focus through the five research divisions, and made an overall introduction of SARI’s Talents Recruitment, Infrastructure Construction, Resource Integration and Allocation, System and Mechanism and Innovation Culture.
The experts agreed on the overall planning and made some suggestions. Academician Jiaxiong Fang acknowledged the advantageous position of SARI in Institute-Local Government Cooperation, and suggested that SARI put more emphasis on the collaborative transformation between Shanghai and Yangtze River Delta. Academician Jian Ding stressed the importance of cooperation among institutes, and pointed out that attention should be paid to the selection of both long and short term science research programs. Zhiyuan Zhu, Executive Vice President of CAS Shanghai Branch defined SARI’s position and development pattern characteristics, that is: Integration, Innovation, Transfer and Transformation, Multi-Specialty, and provided guidance from perspectives of specialty area, science research layout, industrialization platform.
During the meeting, experts reviewed the panning and formed expert opinions. SARI’s position and mission was reinforced, and recommendations and suggestions from experts were confirmed. Through this seminar, under the leadership of the construction leadership group of Pudong Science and Technology Park, SARI will closely follow the development strategies of the nation and local governments, combine the spirit of “Innovation 2020”, make appropriate planning, vigorously develop science research and industrialization, and actively accomplish the medium and long term development goal.
