On the afternoon of May 11th, Ms. LIU Yandong, member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor, inspected SARI. LIU Yandong stressed that the development of science and technology should be in line with the development of economy and education. Mr. YUAN Guiren, Minister of Education of China, Mr. WANG Zhigang, deputy secretary and deputy minister of Science and Technology of China, Ms. JIANG Xiaojuan, deputy secretary and deputy director of Research Office of the State Council, Prof. SHI Erwei, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) were with LIU Yandong for the inspection. Mr. HAN Zheng, Deputy secretary of municipal party committee and mayor of Shanghai, Ms. YIN Yicui, Deputy secretary of municipal party committee accompanied LIU Yandong during the inspection.

LIU Yandong made keynote speech after hearing reports from Prof. FENG Songlin, President of SARI and Mr. XUE Minyang, Director of Shanghai municipal education commission. LIU Yandong appreciated the work done by CAS and Shanghai Municipal Government. She said that the work done by SARI during its preparation period was in line with the theme of promoting the change of economic developing mode to achieve scientific development. LIU Yandong emphasized that SARI should promote the integration of S&T, explore and establish an effective mechanism that integerates administration, production, learning, research and application to support the nation’s industrial revitalization. 

LIU Yandong pointed out that CAS and Shanghai Municipal Government should combine their advantages in resources and take initiatives in education reform to strengthen the integration of S&T and education. She hoped that Shanghai Municipal Government, CAS and Ministry of Education can work together to create a new mode for talent cultivation and scientific research with its own characteristics. 

Prof. WANG Jianyu, Prof. ZHU Zhiyuan, Prof. ZHANG Xu and Mr. LI Zhenghua from CAS Shanghai Branch and Prof. FENG Songlin, Prof. SUN Yuhan and Prof. Huang Weiguang from SARI as well as some directors from other institutes of CAS in Shanghai also joined the event.
