SARI Participates in the 2018 China International Low Carbon Technology Expo and held International Symposium on Low Carbon Energy System
date: 2018-05-29

Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (“SARI”) jointly organized the 2018 (First) China International Low Carbon Technology Expo (the “Expo”) at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center from April 22 to 26 and held the International Symposium on Low Carbon Energy System (the “Symposium”) on April 24.

The Expo features seven themes of climate change, green building technology, low-carbon cities, low-carbon equipment, low-carbon Internet of Things technologies, new energy and green manufacturing. It also included one theme forum and six separate forums, to exhibit key low-carbon technologies from home and abroad and set up channels for international cooperation.

SARI showcased its overall R&D achievements and pilot demonstrations in energy and environment field by displaying systems such as thermal power conversion system, hybrid energy system, carbon emission data system, low-carbon building demonstration and latest research on membrane materials and catalysts, to demonstrate key technologies and practices for low-carbon development.

The Symposium was hosted by Wang Maohua, Vice President of SARI. Qi Tao, Deputy Director General of Bureau of Major R&D Programs of CAS, Huang Weiguang, Vice President of SARI and Li Peng, Secretary General of the Expo delivered opening addresses respectively.

Prof. Qi Tao pointed out that the report at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China made it clear that how to build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system has become the important energy development strategy of our country. Energy is the theme of the whole world. CAS is vigorously promoting pilot projects in the area of fossil, renewable and clean energy. This Expo can connect academia with industry, and China with the international community for future low-carbon strategy.

“SARI is dedicated to the solution of low-carbon technology, energy conservation and emission reduction since its establishment. I hope this international symposium can serve as a platform to gather government leaders, academic experts and corporate representatives to jointly set the future direction for China’s low-carbon development.” said Prof. Huang Weiguang in his opening address.

Fei Weiyang, CAS Academician and Professor of Tsinghua University, Marcelo Masera, Head of Energy Security, Distribution and Markets Unit in the Energy, Transport and Climate Directorate of JRC, Alexander van der Made, Senior principal scientist New Energy Technologies of Shell, Sun Yuhan, Director of CAS Key Lab of Low Carbon Science and Engineering, Dai Zhimin, Deputy Director of SINAP-CAS, Tian Peng, professor at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) delivered keynote speeches on the topic of Low Carbon Energy Strategy, EU Smart Energy Solutions, Hybrid Energy Strategy, TMSR and DMTO. The Symposium attracted more than 60 representatives from Joint Research Centre, European Commission, SARI and ShanghaiTech University.
