The SSRF Phase-II Beamline Project has been approved as one of the key national scientific infrastructure projects during the 12th Five-year Plan, and commenced on November 20, 2016 with a 6-year construction period. The Phase-II Project is comprised of the construction of sixteen new beamlines the user auxiliary and technique supporting laboratories, the machine upgrade, and the infrastructure construction located at Shanghai Zhangjiang High-Tech Park which covers 18995 m2. The project was jointly invested by the central government, Shanghai municipality, and the Chinese Academy of Scinces. The project is organized by Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in collaboration with Shanghai Tech University.
The completion of the project will bring huge improvement in spatial resolution of complex structure, temporal resolution for fast dynamic process, and elemental analysis sensitivity, which will ensure that SSRF continues to maintain its top position among the third-generation synchrotron facilities around the world and meanwhile facilitate the innovative capacity of emergent industries in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone.
