Exchange & Visit
On July 20th 2015, American academician Menachem Elimelech, Professor at Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of Yale University was invited to visit SARI and deliver a keynote speech titled “High Performance Membranes for Energy-Efficient Desalination and Wastewater Reuse”. Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Mr. Wang Maohua delivered a welcome speech and Prof He Tao from Membrane Materials and Separation Technology laboratory of SARI hosted the event. Researchers and students from companies and colleges like DOW, GE, Slovay, Modern Water, Disney, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Tongji University attend the academic report.
In this presentation, Professor Elimelech mainly introduced how to apply new type of nanometer materials in membrane preparation process used in desalination and wastewater reuse processes as well as the development of the membrane materials with anti-fouling and anti-microbial properties. The attendees held a heated discussion with professor Elimelech about the membrane modification, the application in Forward Osmosis and Membrane Distillation processes.
Professor Elimelech has been engaged in the research of forward osmosis technology in water and energy sustainable development and has published about 300 papers, including several invited reviews in Nature and Science journals. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2006.
