The CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative, PIFI, is a specific funding program to attract talented foreigners to CAS for scientific exchanges and research cooperation.

PIFI Distinguished Scientist Program
(1) Qualifications: Foreign experts (scholars) should be internationally renowned experts (scholars) with high academic reputation and international influence, formal employees of foreign institutions (or retired from foreign institutions), and have no employment relationship with CAS or SIBET.
(2) Evaluation Focus: Focus on evaluating the academic level, international reputation and influence, and content of exchange in China of foreign experts (scholars).
(3) Execution Time and Content: Conduct academic visits to CAS and SIBET for 1-2 weeks and give academic lectures and exchanges in at least 2 affiliated units (including SIBET).
(4) Execution Period: Before October 202X
(5) Funding Standard: ¥40,000/week/project
(6) Scope of Expenditure: Living expenses, round-trip airfare to China, transportation expenses, insurance expenses, and service fees. (If the service fee already includes expert living expenses, transportation expenses, and insurance expenses, it should not be paid again.)
(7) Restriction Requirements: Those who have already implemented this project in the same application year may not apply again. Foreign experts (scholars) who have been included in the PIFI Group project should generally not apply for this project again. Under equal conditions, priority should generally be given to projects that have not been funded.
PIFI Visiting Scientist Program
(1) Qualifications: Foreign experts (scholars) should be outstanding experts (scholars) with certain academic reputation and international influence, formal employees of foreign institutions (or retired from foreign institutions), and have no employment relationship with CAS or SIBET.
(2) Evaluation Focus: Focus on evaluating the academic level and content of cooperation between foreign experts (scholars).
(3) Execution Time: Foreign experts (scholars) should visit CAS and SIBET for academic visits or cooperative research for 1-6 months, holding at least 1 open academic exchange activity. The project can be implemented in stages during the execution period, with each stage not less than 1 month of continuous visit to our academy. Visits and exchange activities of less than 1 month at a time during the execution period are not counted as project execution time.
(4) Execution Period: Before October 202X
(5) Funding Standard: The funding standards for foreign professors/associate professors/assistant professors (including postdoctoral researchers) or equivalent are ¥40,000/¥30,000/¥20,000/month/project respectively, and one round-trip economy class international travel fare is subsidized.
(6) Renewal Application: After the project execution period of 1 month, the project leader can apply for project renewal through the ARP system. Foreign experts (scholars) with the title of professor (or equivalent) can apply for project renewal. Foreign experts (scholars) who have been continuously funded for more than 18 months should be evaluated and converted to PIFI Expert.
(7) Scope of Expenditure: Transportation expenses, insurance expenses, and service fees. (If the service fee already includes expert transportation expenses and insurance expenses, it should not be paid again.)
