China's First Carbon Fiber Composite Materials Yacht Made a Successful Trial Voyage

China’s first carbon fiber composite materials yacht, “Zhongke Uni-Asia”, made a successful trial voyage recently and received the ship authorization. The yacht was exhibited on Shanghai 19th Chinese International Yacht and Its Technology Equipment Exhibition on April 10.

It is almost 100% carbon fiber composite materials, which is 30% lower in weight compared with traditional yacht, 20% faster in speed and 20% more efficient in fuel consumption.
The successful research and development of Zhongke Uni-Asia Carbon fiber composite materials yacht is a major achievement of the CAS Carbon Fiber Action Plan. Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Yangfan SeaSky Yacht Manufacturing spent nearly two years to jointly working on the carbon fiber composite materials technology yacht prototyping technology and special resin composite materials technology. Carbon fiber enhanced composite materials has higher strength and lower density compared with glass fiber composite materials. By utilizing carbon fiber composite materials, the weight of the yacht are obviously lowered and the anti-striking and safety levels are improved.
Low cost composite carbon fiber manufacturing technology is a major research result of CAS, and is one of SARI technology transfer achievements. Its application in yacht not only helps to build the modern green ship, but is also a sign of China’s progress in manufacturing industry.

Jiang Yuhai’s cooperation studies were published on the Physical Review Letters

Prof. Jiang Yuhai in Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SARI-CAS), cooperated with Max Planck Institute (MPI), successfully observed time-resolved interatomic Coulombic decay (ICD) for the very first time using the advanced Free-Electron Lasers at Hamburg (FLASH).

Intra-molecular energy transfer and energy redistribution are the most elementary reaction processes in chemical physics and biological chemistry. The ICD process has important applications for high-density and high-energy radiations, which has been attracting more and more attention for physicists and chemists for many years.
Experimental results are published on the latest world-leading physical journal- Physical Review Letters (Phys. Rev. Lett.111093402 (2013)). Prof. Jiang Yuhai achieves fruitful performances by international cooperation since he came back from abroad and this is the second time for him to publish their cooperation results on Physical Review Letters.
